Israel With Rev Porteus - Derryloran Parish Church

Depart Dublin on overnight flight at 6.35pm changing aircraft in Zurich.  Arrival in Tel Aviv circa 4am.  Due to Covid restrictions you will be in the airport security and passport control until approximately 6am.  On arrival you will pass through customs and will be met be a guide who will lead you to the Arrivals Hall to meet your coach. 


Depart airport for a scenic journey by Joppa and then on for a coffee stop on route to Caesarea.  Here you will have time to enjoy Caesarea – Caesarea Maritima.  Visit Muhkraka Carmelite Monastery – the site where Elijah slew the prophets of Baal.  Mount Carmel has amazing views across the Valley of Armageddon towards the Horns of Hitton and Jerusalem. Head towards Cana village and into Nazareth to visit the Church of Annunciation and Mary’s Well.  After an early lunch stop and a drive along the shores of Galilee you will arrive at your hotel for your next 2 nights will be spent in Galilee at the Lake House hotel.  The remainder of the afternoon and evening are free to relax.  Dinner at hotel. 


After breakfast enjoy a boat trip on the Sea of Galilee.  Jesus spent much of His ministry in the Galilee region.  Sailing across the Galilee you can view Capernaum, Tabgha, Mount of Beatitudes and get a great view of the surrounding towns where Jesus would have walked.  On disembarkation you will get the opportunity to view the ancient boat at Ginossar, of Jesus boat as it is known.  The shores of Galilee have unearthed a magnificent city in recent times, named Magdala – a whole fishing village is uncovered and here you will see the fishing pools and the fantastic new church with the pulpit set as a fishing boat.  The church is aptly named after women from the Bible, Mary Magdalene, in particular. After lunch you will get the opportunity to head to the Golan Heights for a walk beside the water springs of the Banias – Caesarea Philippi. Take a scenic journey back to Galilee. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. 


Depart Galilee this morning after you have had a lunch stop you will continue to Megiddo, south of Galilee.  Here the whole city is excavated – 1000s of years come alive. Continue your scenic journey across the Jordan Valley, making a stop at the Qasr al Yehud baptismal site.  This site is very authentic and give you an idea of the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist.  Ascend to Jerusalem, taking in the view from Mt. Scopus over the old and new city. You will stay at Shalom hotel in Jerusalem for 5 nights.


Drive into the Judean Desert to Qumran, the site where the first Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Continue to Herod’s fortress of Masada and take the cable car to the mountaintop archaeological park. Arrive next to a Dead Sea beach for a salty dip at the lowest point on earth.  Return to hotel for dinner and overnight. 


Head to the Mt. of Olives for a panoramic view, then visit the Garden of Gethsemane. Head to St. Stephen’s gate to visit the Pool of Bethesda and St. Anne’s Church, then see the Western Wall, Southern Wall Excavations (Davidson Center), and walk through the Jewish Quarter. Head towards the Zion Gate, making visits to Caiaphas’ House (Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu), and David’s Tomb, including the Upper Room. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. 


Depart in the morning for Abu Ghosh to visit the St. Mary of Resurrection Abbey and continue to the Church of St. John the Baptist in Ein Kerem. Visit the Old City model and Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum. Drive to Bethlehem for visits to Manger Square and the Nativity Church, before continuing to Shepherd’s Field in a nearby village.  Dinner and overnight at hotel. 


Begin the day at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, then enjoy a view from the Haas Promenade before continuing to the Old City for the Ramparts Walk along its walls. Drive to City of David and walk-through Hezekiah’s Tunnel to the Pool of Shiloah. Arrive to the Garden Tomb for a communion service in the evening. Tonight, after dinner you will return to David’s Citadel to enjoy the Sound & Light Show on the Walls of the Old City.


Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and some free time until lunch before you depart for the airport.  A lunch stop (at own expense) will be made on your way back to the airport.  Your flight departs Tel Aviv at 4.30PM, arriving in Dublin around 11.30pm.
